What makes a serial killer so special? Is it becuse he kills? Or is it because he kills in a certain way? The choice is actually yours to make. We see killers every day in this country. Minor junkies just wanting a blood or power fix. But a serial killer is different. Special, mind you. He is telling a story with his kills. Whether it's a story of revenge, hatred or lust, the story is always the same. He wants to be caught. Not by just any person, but by a special person. Someone who can unravel his mystery, his feelings, his story. Serial killers see the world in a different light. They see pain, anger, misery, and something else normal people can't. Something special, mind you. To think, in another time, I would've become a serial killer. What changed my mind in time to stop me? You decide. Think about it. Maybe you'll see what I can't!

It's natural these days to add such elements of fantasy to things we truly don't understand, in my research, there is nothing furhter from the truth. There is a story behind every death, that is true, but most established serial killers, and I don't know indepth you've researched most modern established serial killers, but serial killers are not tortured artists, weaving a tale and painting a portrait with each drop of blood they spill.

I suppose if you spelled it all out you could percieve it that way, but there are far to many slasher flicks out there. Take some time, do some real research about real serial killers. There isa theory called Locard's Principle of Exchange which states when a crime is committed the killer will always leave some evidence at the scene and take some evidence away with him.

I bet the FBI wishes that were really true. Killers like the Zodiac Killer and the events of the recent motion picture Black Dahlia, would long be solved. (Haven't seen the movie yet btw, any good? Anyone?)

Without this theory, all those crime shows with their fantastic forensics wouldn't be able to go into their second and third seasons. There is always some DNA, some fiber, some spore from a plant, some tire tread, some tool mark...something...to link the murder to the bad guy. When that is accomplished, the happy district attorney goes to court and presents an airtight case and justice triumphs.

Killers can seem brilliant and in depth when they seem impossible to catch. Some have been positivley brilliant, Edmund Kempwer was a child genious. Charles Manson with his IQ of 109, used the love of the 60's to poison the minds of average young hippes and turned them into killers for the sake of a revolution that he waged. Yes he was intelligent, but large amounts of drugs psychedelics, speed and pot can do strange things to even the brightest folks. Trust me on that.

Serial killers have been studied in and out. No two have really ever been comparable. I mean, compare Calr Panzram to Jeffrey Dahmer, they both had sex with men, but the motives and the rearing are far too different to categorize, there obviously is no one "thing" that makes a man a monster.

And by that same stroke there is no fine line between us and serial killers, we do not all have the capacity to simply snap and become blood thirsty throat slitters. Serial killers are made through life times of cruelty and depravity. A fascination with the macabre is natural and fairly healthy in fact. We all have that sinister urge, otherwise we wouldn't be posting or hanging out on a Halloween oriented chat, but serial killers are generally un couth, cold blooded scumbags horny or on a power trip.

I'll allow you your fantasies, but do some research. If you want real histories of real serial killers, a good author is Ann Rule, also keep an eye on Court TV for good info on the due process of prosectuting and analyzing killers and visit www.crimelibrary.com (http://www.crimelibrary.com) for some wonderfully accurate reading.

Also the band Macabre have a fixation with serial killers even devoting a whole album to a death metal biography of Jeffrey Dahmer, aptly named "Dahmer"

I have done a little research of serial killers myself. They have all tons of information at websites dedicated to what makes them tick...

... It takes both Nature/Nurture/x-factor
(the last one is anything out of the ordinary that might have an effect)
