Any literary buffs on this site? Any literary recommendations?

For my part I love all the old James Herbert novels but in terms of new talent I particular like ' 'Redemption' by (Wayne Sharrocks) which is a dark psychological thriller and 'Dead until Dark' by Charlaine Harris which is a modern horror feast).

I agree that 'Redemption' is brilliant- a unique blend of dark horror and quick wit. Haven't read the other book you mentioned.

As for literary recommendations...Anne rice and Storm Constantine are pretty good modern authors but if you fancy something more 'classic' you could give E.A.Poe or Patrick Suskind a go?

Hmm recommendations, if you're a horror fan, nothing beats H.P Lovecraft. Check out the novella "At the Mountains of Madness" and the short story "Herbert West, Re-animator" those are my two favorites but ANYTHING Lovecraft is very notable horror gold! Also for a more classic feel check out Algernon Blackwood, he does alot of short stories, you shouldn't have a problem getting ahold of anything by him.

For more contemporary horror, check out a book, "I Am Legend" by Richard Matheson, especially if you like Vampires. (Helps even more if you liked the movie "The Omega Man" with Charleton Heston)

But for a real treat, check out "House of Leaves" by Mark Danielewski, that one was probably the BEST horror book I have read in and LOOOOOONG time. It's really complex, but if you can sift through the layers (Much like the main character in the book) this book is so unique and chilling, that I recommend it to ANYONE that likes horror....hell if you lived near me, I'd let you borrow my copy! It really is that good! (In my opinion anyhow)

(And not to be a horror whore, but if you like horror reading, I've a wicked story posted on here called "Lonely Grave" lemme know what you think! If you like it I'll prolly post more!)

Mmm...very dark and twisted.
As it was written in the first person it had an almost 'Redemption' / 'American Psycho' vibe to it.

I'll look-up on Amazon the other authors/books you mentioned as they have detailed synopsis/reviews/example chapters to peruse etc...

Thanx for the pointers...

House of leaves is my favorite book ever! I have given away 3 copies! I am really disturbed and inspired by the house. There are 4 or more versions of this book available. If you are going to buy it, get a 2-color copy, preferably the full color copy which includes color plates, braille, certain words appear in specific colors like House or Minotaur,as well as letters, polaroids, sketches, etc. You won't be sorry.

You may notice that POE does the "soundtrack" cd to the House of Leaves. She is actually Danielewski's sister and they have toured together recently. Don't let this discourage you,it is still an incredible, raw, scary as hell novel.

The new book is in the works...check out the website.

Sweet another House fan!

I knew Poe did a soundtrack, haven't heard it myself, but did not know that she was the author's sister, now that is interesting!

And yes! The full color copy is the one I have...

Gods even just thinking about the book give me the chills....

Scripts are great reading. If you have a player. I download them to my ipod and read them on the go. You can print them for that authentic feel of a script as well,go ahead waste some paper! the 'Donnie Darko' shooting script is terriffic. There are tons of free scripts online. Ever read 'the Crow:2037' by Rob Zombie? Yup, it's out there.

The script eh? That is awesome, I was disapointed when I heard they pulled the plug on it...budget problems if I recall correctly!I have found however, the original Day of the Dead script! What George A. wanted to do with it...it is COMPLETELY different then the movie... except for being in an underground military base, but it is wild! A fellow script fan like yourself should enjoy it thoroughly.
