I think they work I enjoyed the second parts of House, Omen, Halloween Amityville.

My tantalized spirit here blandly reposes, forgetting, or never regretting its roses.

The Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street sequals got better as they went. I think Aliens was better than Alien but I'm not sure if that counts as a sci-fi or action movie rather than horror.

I thought Blair Witch 2 was better than the first one.

How much blood would you shed to stay alive?

Love 'Aliens'. Agree with Red on House, Omen & m a y b e Halloween, but like Omen, Halloween & Amityville are good movies in their own right.
BTW Elm Street 2 is total and utter CRAP.

You're one of me?

Lets see, good sequels that worked:

Evil Dead 2
A Nightmare on Elm St 3
Dawn of the Dead
Phantasm 2
Aliens
Hellraiser 2

That's just the tip of the iceberg. As a rule, sequels suck pretty hard, but on occasion they're justified and even turn out to be worthy of following the original. I think as long as the sequel has some form of artistic credibility to it and it's not just thrown out there by the studio because the original film did well, it has a good chance of working.

No, not really.

Many critics think "The Bride of Frankenstein" was superior to the original "Frankenstein". I think "Halloween 2" was a huge drop off from the original "Halloween", but I accepted it as a legitimate sequel.

How about in the Hannibal series? They were made in a weird order but I like them all except for Manhunter really.

You liked "Hannibal"? Please say you at least found the brain eating scene too, too funny for words!

Yes the Hannibal series are among my favourite films. Probably because I love Criminology. The Hannibal's my favourite fictional serial killer.
That scene was both funny and cool.

I thought "Hannibal" was a huge drop off from "Silence of the Lambs". First of all everyone that Hannibal Lector killed in "Hannibal", was a scumbag, so not only did you not feel sorry for them, you felt they got what they deserved. Also I thought this movie tried to get by primarily on gore. No substance, No suspense.

Let's see I think these were already mentioned but I like Phantasm 2, Hellraiser 2 and Evil Dead 2. I think they were all just as good if not better than the originals.

Well, Evil Dead 2, Halloween II and Hellbound: Hellraiser II have already been mentioned.

Wes Craven's New Nightmare was a fresh take on the Nightmare films.
28 Weeks Later was a good follow up on 28 Days Later.
Finally, Bride of Re-Animator is another one I liked- good to see it had some parts taken from H.P. Lovecraft's original story.

Wasn't Re-Animator pretty much a kind of a modern-day Frankenstein?

Bataeu

Bride of Re-Animator is more of a modern-day Frankenstein than the original, considering he builds his "bride" out of human remains.

But yeah, you could look upon Re-Animator as a modern-day Frankenstein considering he's a doctor determined to bring the dead to life.
The fact that H.P Lovecraft wrote Herbert West: The Re-Animator in 1922, 104 years after Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein (in 1818) would probably imply he was inspired by it. :P

Ya most likely. :F

I had forgotten it was Lovecraft that wrote Re-animator. Somehow it doesn't seem like something he would have written. :\ Much different from his others, anyhow.

Evil Dead 2 and Dawn of the Dead 2 are up there...I didn't care for Blair Witch 2, I feel that they used a stupid concept.

Yeah. The original was good enough. Some people even believed it. Why would they want to make it into just another ghost-in-the-woods movie, especially after so many people copied them in the first place?
