Ringu - Warning, Spoilers

Yes spoilers.....

Yes I only just got round to seeing 1&2. I don't get it. The phone rings three times in the first movie, yet 5 people see the tape. And only two die after watching the tape IN FULL. Only two die after discovery of tape. Yes blurred photo is creepy, but so what?
How corpses look is spooky, but so what?
In '2' no-one ever sees the tape in full (on screen) and the phone NEVER rings. Kid has psychic powers, ma is killed (Changed in remake), Tomokos friend has same powers as kid and Sadako is no longer scary.
Did I miss something?

I seen the first one and I thought it was ok but not all that great
