Hi everyone, I came across this site while googling and thought I'd share a particularly nasty dream I had a while back.

I was staying at a friends place at the time, and the only thing I imagine that could have prompted the dream was drawing pentograms on his kid's etch-a-sketch that afternoon. Let me explain that I'm an atheist, so naturally occult symbols don't bother me, it just seemed a bit ironic on a kids toy.

That night I dreamt I was at a carnival like place (cliche I know, but hey it's my dream), in a big open field with huge stretches of green grass everywhere. Everyone was having a good time, myself included.
Suddenly I was grabbed by something I couldn't see. I could definately feel the arms and hands, even see the marks on my arms from the pressure, but couldn't see whatever the hands belonged to. One by one my friends were dragged screaming in front of me and had the flesh ripped from their bodies. The more I struggled the tighter the grip on me became. As you can imagine chaos ensued as people trying to run away were snatched mid-stride, and brought to me for a close-up view of their obviously painful demise.

At this point I realised it must be a dream (I'm normally quite good at that), and told myself to wake up. I was back in bed (in my friends guest room) and quite glad to be awake. I decided to get a glass of water to calm down. When I tried to get up I was sucked back down through the bed for what felt like quite a distance. It was incredibly dark so I had no point of reference regarding distance, but I had the sensation that I was moving at considerable speed.

I was back in the field, alone now apart from a evil looking character aproaching in the distance. Again I willed myself to wake up, this time managing to check the alarm clock on the bedside cabinet before being sucked down again. I became angry at this point and started screaming and swearing quite a lot. Four more times I "woke up", each time for a shorter period of time, and each time the aproaching person was closer to me when I went back.

Finally he was face to face with me. I can't remember what he looked like now but fear overcame me. He spoke in a calm voice, the kind that hides the menace behind it. He asked me why I kept trying to wake up when I already was awake. I swore at him and told him that can't be true. He cut my arm slowly with a knife, apparently to prove his point. Pain spread through my body and blood ran from my wound. I could see the severed arteries. This made me angrier than ever and I screamed something to the effect that if I was awake now I'd rather be dead. I grabbed the knife and plunged it into the side of my throat. Intense pain. I saw a look of surprise on his face, that pushed me over the edge. I pulled the knife forwards ripping out my larynx.

Immediately afterwards I was back in bed, covered in sweat but for once totally sure that the dream was over. I felt no fear, in fact I didn't feel the need to stand up and make sure I wasn't going to get sucked down again. I just rolled over and went to sleep.

Nightmares haven't bothered me since.

Thanks, glad you liked it.

I actually had another one last night, that really freaked me out (the first time in ages, probably just to prove me wrong), although it's almost three times as long. I started typing up it straight after I woke up but then almost was late for work.

I've been trying to dream more often and have managed to have at least 3 nightmares this week that I can remember. I love dreams and nightmares, they're almost like a mini-holiday or a movie in your head.
