I am looking for a new idea for this years haunted house(2004), we do a big one for the complex and have been doing a dungeon for three years now.
I was thinking of a haunted circus but other than clowns[:o)] and maybe a gorrilla in a cage i can't think of any thing else that would be scary. If anyone has any ideas that I might be able to use please let me know. Thank you all in advance.

We did "Creepers Cannibal Carnival" last year. All of us were dressed like scary clowns, which some of us actually looked more like giant rag dolls--I made huge cartoony like three fingered white gloves for all of us and we wore hard plastic masks that we painted with UV paint, but that was pretty creepy too! I made brighly colored yarn wigs that glowed in blacklite (if you didn't already guess we had plenty of blacklite about). We made a giant round circus tent and painted it with UV paint that was white and dk. orange stripes (which came out red and blue in the blacklite), and I draped red sheer frabric at the entrance. We set up a table inside the tent with a fake shemp on it, with a couple of us gnawing on its guts (made of long wiggle ballons filled with sand) where people had to come in the to get their much deserved treats. We filled the tent periodically with fog, like just before a group would come, so they couldn't really see what was going on inside and had a red mini strobe lite hanging over the table--it had a huge freak-out factor for a lot of people. They'd wind up pushing eachother inside saying "NO, NO, YOU go first I can't see what's in there!". I also left a split in the back of the tent so I could sneek out and come around the front when our "victims" thought they were safe from me, hehehehe, scared the p*** outta 'em. We had shakercans and horns to freak people also. Oh, and I had a UV painted Machete to chase "the brave one's".:D We made a giant Jack-in-the-Box painted UV friendly, and left the back open for easy access. We also made a "Clown Gallery" with four 3D prop heads (like the ones in Disney's Haunted Mansion) that looked like all four of us. We made them so we could open the backs of the pictures and "Stand in" for the portraits--people didn't know which ones were us and which ones were the fakes--untill we reached out and grabbed them, or growled at them, LOL, it was GREAT! Our last minute prop was a free standing barred cage made from pvc and plywood, painted black. The pvc is flexable so we could get out at anytime to chase some one. With a little creepy circus music in the air, you'll have a hit! We did!:D

My Haunted House started out with an abandoned two story Victorian. The porch was rigged when you reached the third step...a reversed old kirby canister vaccum blowing air into burial shrouds...this triggered a motion sensor to start a banshee shreeker. Enter the front door...130 lbs of cobweb material went down a darkened hallway. Low Glow ultra black lights at the end of the hallway...a mat on the floor midway triggered a very realistic looking three and a half foot tarantula to drop from the ceiling and charge forward befor retracting to it's hole with a growling hiss...human props were everywhere...the dead actually came alive...the party room had an old upright player piano...on top was a pine coffin that seemed to be a part of the piano...put in your nickle and watch the fun as a real corpse opens the lid and reaches for you...this went on to many other frights...snacks...real finger food...we made molds of different peoples hands...cut off the fingers so as to fill them with minced chicken breasts...frozen...removed and deep fried in a flour mix...when cooled slide pretzel sticks inside...mmmm...humans do taste like chicken...crunchy treat dipped in a sweet red sauce that appeared to be blood....to many things to mention...great evening...try an idea if you like...

Instead of doing a haunted house, Im going to put together more of like a.. hm.. a haunted story walk through. I'm going to come up with a more realistic scarey story, get friends and family to play the parts and help build the set and take visitors through a hike or ride if they prefer and tell them the story as we walk through. I think Im going to make it free. Ill try to remember to post the story when I get it done.

My idea is to adopt and create my own version of Disneyland Paris's Phantom Manor, the darker and more morbid cousin of The Haunted Mansion. As the story goes, Master Ravenswood, the owner of a great mansion Big Thunder Flats in the wild west, met a gypsy woman. Her name was Madame Leota. They were to be wed until right before the wedding, he met a young woman named Melonie and decided to marry her insted. Heart broken and angery, Leota cast a spell to summon a phantom to enter Ravenswood Manor and kill Melonie. But when the phantom sets eyes on his victom, he fell in love took matters into his own hands. Wedding guests who had been staying in the home were lock into there rooms and were asphyxiated. New guest arriving for the wedding were murdered. The spirits of the already past were arisen from the boothill located on the property. He used the ghost of those who he had murdered and summoned to bewitch the house so Melonie would never be able to leave. When Leota entered to home to see how her handy work had turned out, she came fact-to-face with Melonie. She chased her into the large circular gallery where she planned to murder her herself until, right above them, the phantom hung Master Ravenwood. Madame Leota tried to destroy the phantom but ended up beheaded in a crystal ball to chant his curse forever. When Melonie resisted the phantom's love, he placed one final curse on her. She must now, for all eternity, what the wedding that never happened while aging into noth but dust.
That's the story. I took many liberites with it since the real story is loosly written. I think it would make a great idea to tell this story to the guest then enter the manor and discover it filled with ghosts, the bride, and the phantom (being the grand finale).

i'm planning on doing a haunted garage. no real theme, just scary stuff here and there. Got the ghost made. Almost finished my little mutant critter and am trying on making a bleeding tombstone. I also want a fog machine with cooled smoke spilling out of a cauldron. Halloween is my christmas! :)
It would be so much easier to not be paranoid if they weren't after me!!

Hey, not to nitpick, but here is the REAL story behind the Phantom Manor:
Henry Ravenswood was a very rich man who lived around the 1800's. He built a huge mansion above the western town of Thunder Mesa to live in with his wife, Martha, and his daughter, Melanie. He was very protective of Melanie. One fateful day, Melanie fell in love with a poor man named John. They soon started making preparations for a wedding. However, one day, Henry overheard John and Melanie planning to move away from Thunder Mesa once they were married. Henry would not stand for this, and planned to hang John in the portrait gallery of their manor. However, an earthquake struck, killing both Henry and Martha. John and Melanie survived, and continued on with the wedding. But, Henry came back from the grave as a phantom, and murdered John from beyond the grave. Melanie spent her last days wandering around the mansion aimlessly. Now, Henry Ravenswood (now the Phantom) and the spirit of Melanie Ravenswood are constantly fighting for control of the mansion, and the souls of anybody who enters. Henry has his demons and ghouls, but Melanie summons help from the spirits of the mansion staff who perished in the earthquake.
Whoo. That took some time.
