If we're talking about soundtracks with identifiable songs...then I agree about the "Lost Boys" album. But if we're talking soundtrack mood music, I'll have to go with either John Carpenter's original "Halloween" soundtrack or John Harrison's soundtrack for "Creepshow." Both of those are creepy, atmospheric and just plain awesome.

Hmmm...Queen of the Damned is good, Lost Boys is good, I have a CD with all the horror soundtracks like Excorcist and Halloween and other good stuff too. One of my favorites is called "Vampire music". Its mostly instrumental classical stuff that you can imagine Dracula relaxing too while sipping on a blood filled wine glass.

Yep, I do--I also like the soundtrack for 'The Midnight Hour', it was a cheezy little made for TV movie--That I absolutely LOVE. It has alot of cool oldies in it and a cameo of Wolfman Jack.

You know how much I liked "The Midnight Hour"..."Get Dead" was good, as were all the oldies, and Wolfman Jack in an American Graffitti type role was the bomb! Unfortunately, I think you and I might be the only two who know anything about it!

MY FAVORITES WOULD HAVE TO BE:
DRACULA
A CLOCKWORK ORANGE
LEGEND
ROCKY HORROR
THE CROW
AND THE ONLY THEME SCORE THAT STILL SENDS A CHILL DOWN MY SPINE WHEN I HEAR IT IS JAWS/AMITTYVILLE HORROR.

LEGEND? HORROR?? Well, I suppose if you had a paranoia of Fantasy creatures, and bad acting.

Legend is not horror,(except for Tom Cruise jumping out of the tree) it was a sound track that came in handy for certain rooms in the haunted house in past years. Same with Dracula and Waterworld.

I agree, strangeland's soundtrack was unsurpassed, it was nice to see cpt. howdy on the screen, but for the overall spine tingling chillfreaks abroad nothing comes close to the dawn of the dead, listen to it at night driving down deserted streets and you'll see what i mean.

I haven't seen Strageland yet but I heard it's suppose to be pretty ****ing freaky. As for Dawn, That does have a great soundtrack, It's just so perfect for a end of the world type flick. I like the music when there going out on there missions to rid the mall of all the zombies, Great stuff. ;)

you gotta check that one out devil, it's a must see, but in terms of bone chilling scores for scenes the scene where peter and dead-eye roger are clearing out the basement of the apt building
was great, that steady bass line was perfect music to mutilate by, you know i rented one a few days ago that has definate classic potential, if you get the chance check out an indie' called dogs of war, it will not disappoint.

I agree with you about that scene from Dawn, Very creepy scene. I also like the comic relief score of the movie when they turn the mall music on and when they start throwing pies in the zombies faces, Those scenes were just so perfect for an epic movie like Dawn of the Dead.

I DON'T WANT TO GIVE TOO MUCH AWAY BUT IT CENTERS AROUND THIS GROUP OF SOLDIERS IN THE MOUNTAINS BEING TERRORZED BY A PACK OF WEREWOLVES, GORE-FEST CITY AND ACTION PACKED, EVERY SO OFTEN YOU JUST FIND A GREAT CLASSIC IN THE MIDST OF NO TALENT B-MOVIE GARBAGE ON THE SHELVES, LIKE DEAD ALIVE (CLASSIC) OR ANOTHER EVIL-DEAD TYPE SPOOF HOOROR CLASSIC LIKE FRANKENHOOKER, TWO OF THE GREAT ONES THAT DESERVE MUCH MORE CREDIT THAN THEY HAVE AMMASSED, WHAT ABOUT HORROR LITERATURE WHO ARE YOUR FAV'S?

I have seen this one. Although the title I rented it under was "Dog Soldiers." Overall a great werewolf flick, I do have one complaint about it, but I will keep it to myself, so not to spoil it fo anyone else.

Most of the great soundtracks have been named, Suspiria is one yet to be noted. Great score by The Goblins. The music Ronald Stein did for movies such as Dementia 13 also deserves to be mentioned. There is a great collection of his work titled "Not of This Earth, the music of Ronald Stein" that is a must for any fan of horror soundtracks.

Now how about music that has a horror theme, but has not been used to score a film?

I recommend the following;

Bands

The Misfits
Samhain
Bauhaus
Necros

If you want something a little more fun and campy try the Groovie Ghoulies

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds album Murder Ballads could easily fall into this category, along with several other tracks from them.

Uneasy Listening by Eerie Von is a great one, as well as Black Aria by Glenn Danzig.

I know there are more, but this gets things started.

Holy ****, I can't believe I forgot to mention Suspiria, One of my favs of all time and I completely forgot it, Whats wrong with me. That soundtrack is easily compared to Halloweens soundtrack as the best ever.;)

Dogs of War is Dog Soldiers?, If it is then I've seen Dog Soldiers, That's a ****ed up flick with a kick, Werewolves in hell type flick. It's gore o' plenty in this movie but I loved it.:D

gentleman, forgive me for the confusion not realizing that dogs of war was the title given to the overseas release, and that dog soldiers was the title here in the states, i saw it while i was in afghanistan, under the foreign title,
not since the orignal howling has there been such
a bad a** werewolf flick, outstanding indeed. i forgot about dementia 13, agreed those scores remain untainted and stein deserves much more credit than he's been awarded, great stuff...

It's cool Samhain666, You probably had no clue that it had different name like Dog Soldiers, Just like i didn't know it had Dogs of War as it's alternate title. Great ****ing movie though, I just wish that there wasen't subtitles and it was done in english but other than that everything kicked ass.

again another difference, the version i saw was dubbed in english w/o subtitles, just like the version of night of the living dead in the bazar in afghanistan was titled night of the flesh eaters,
i gotta ask devil, what is your input on the dawn remake, george has no rights to this one and he's pi**ed off, you can't help but feel someone is going to taint a religious artifact, stop the madness..!

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds...EXCELLENT EXAMPLE!!
And of course it goes without saying Alice Cooper! (Welcome to my Nightmare and DADA-- the song I Love The Dead is creepy!)
Some of Tom Waits' stuff...not exactly horror, but he writes some twisted lyrics!
I'd have to say that I like Rob Zombie's music and he is probably the more mainstream and well known example of horror-themed music today (in rock anyway)!
And for real old-school horror theatrics... Screamin' Jay Hawkins! Ya know...I put a SPELL on you...He had alot of spooky songs.

Hey. I am new here. Zombie recommended this to me. She is cool. Anyway my favorite horror movie soundtrack is the recently released Freddy vs. Jason soundtrack. Lots of heavy death metal, very appealing to my senses. I recommend it.

Tom Waits!! Great example of what I am talking about. Rob Zombie not only makes great horror themed music, he also puts out stuff by other bands worth checking out on Zombie-A-Go-GO.
Electric Frankenstein is worthy of mention. And don't forget the stuff Zacherly put out in the 60's (now available on c.d.)

Robert Johnson has some tunes that can chill you to the bone.

Yeah Samhain666, I heard about Romero being choked about the remake. I actually read an article about the interview that Romero did, All in all there was alot of swearing and namecalling so I'm thinking he's pretty choked. Remaking classics is always a touchy subject, Especially when it comes to horror flicks. I think TCM comes out this month and Dawn will be out next year, I guess we'll have to wait and see how they do. Btw, Apparently some bodybuilder is playing Leatherface in the TCM remake. [xx(]
