I've heard mixed reviews on this movie, some people loved it, some hated it, some think it's an action movie, and some think it's horror. When I was watching it, I didn't think it was horror. Thoughts?

I looked at it as a monster movie, the same way I'd view Godzilla or King Kong. I wouldn't rank either of those as horror or action.

Me too. It wasn't scary, so there's no horror in it whatsoever.

Well...I think an argument could be made for Cloverfield to be called Sci fi,Horror or action.
Its a monster right? A horrible, giant ,statue of liberty mashing monster. Even if it doesnt scare you to see it on screen,to experience it in person would certainly be a horror.
The action speaks for itself in that respect and ...Ya know, come to think of it i dont think this is science fiction.Yes it is fiction but the creature appears to be a long dormant critter, not a science experiment gone wrong

I think it was a science experiment gone wrong...or something science related. If you heard the talk about the satellite that crashes into the ocean and leaks some kind of fluid (and you saw the satellite hit the ocean in the last scene where they are on the ferris wheel). I guess it could be considered science fiction.

I would put it in the ranks of movies like Alien or even The Fly. Science fiction/Horror.

Since it's a home-movie style flick, it actually could be none or all of the genres mentioned, it's kind of how you take it to be. Certainly there is a horrific creature, but what defines a horror movie? Slashing and killing? Or scary looking creatures? Or topless women?

I think its more along the lines of Monster /suspense because for most of the film you dont really know what is going to happen. personaly i loved the film but then again im nerdy when it comes to such things so i get biased heh
