I run role playing games (mainly D&D but with horror and mystery flavor) and I'm always looking for good atmospheric music. My favorite is the group Midnight Syndicate, I was wondering if anyone else has suggestions. I prefer music with little to no lyrics so as to not distract my players.

Ever heard of Apocalyptica? It is a Finnish cello metal band, composed of classically trained cellists. They play only with cellos, mostly with no vocals whatsoever. It'd be good for a roleplaying site since it's very dark and melodic. =)

I love Apocalyptica! I just bought their new album though and I'm not as impressed as I normally am. I need to get some of their earlier stuff good call.

How about The March to the Scaffold from Symphonie Fantastique by Berlioz. Or there's Night on a Bare Mountain by Mussorgsky. And another is Isle of the Dead by Rachmaninov. Yep i like me classical.

GOBLIN, they do all the Dario Argento movie soundtrack scores, might encourage some slasher behaviour

Schubert's Death and the Maiden quartet.
The adagio from Mahler's 5th symphony.
Albinoni's Adagio(used in the Deerhunter)
Barber's Adagio for strings, recently jazzed up by William Orbit, the swine!
