I have not had this dream for at least 40 years but I remember it like it just happened yesterday. Between the ages of 5 and 10 years old I had this nightmare many times waking up in a cold sweat. It would always start as if I was already awake. I would be looking around my room when suddenly I would realize that some dark shadowy thing was beginning to rise up from the front of my bed. I would start to pull the sheets over my head when suddenly something would grab the sheet and keep me from pulling them farther. I would close my eyes and try to yell or scream but nothing would come out. It was then I realized I was actually asleep but could not wake up. I knew what would happen next. Slowly a black hooded figure would rise up from the foot of my bed. The hood would slowly drop to reveal a hideous witchlike figure glaring coldly at me. Then suddenly it would begin to smile an evil smile and pull out an auger drill like device ,and begin to jam it into my feet. I could feel the cold drill being driven into my feet while the witch would begin to laugh hysterically. I could see myself lying there trying to scream, like an out of body experience. Suddenly I would actually wake up and everything was gone. I remember this would only happen if I fell asleep on my back . For years I would always make it a point to try and sleep on my stomach to ward off this terrible nightmare. Why this only occured between the ages of 5 and 10 I have no idea.

when was the last time you tried sleeping on your back?
when was the very last time that you had the dream?

Like I said before, the last time I had the dream was around the age of ten. I made it a point well into my twenties not to fall asleep on my back. Now it makes no difference how I fall asleep. Why this occured for about five years I have no idea. It shows just how traumatic this nightmare was to me because I still remember it after all these years. I know its weird but unfortunately it was quite real to me.
